Colin Barksby has supported our development team on The Davisville project on Yonge Street, Toronto, which incorporated a 36 car Automated Parking System (APS), from concept through to its recent completion.
Having not undertaken the purchase and installation of anything like this before, Colin’s guidance and leadership in all matters related to the design, procurement, installation, and maintenance of the APS helped us successfully navigate a complex process without delays or budget issues.
His process-driven and transparent approach cohesively brought together the development team and the APS supplier, creating a win-win environment.
Colin’s technical knowledge is impressive; a fundamental part of the project’s success was his ability to remain objective, fair and focused when any change orders or scope deviations occurred.
We wish Kingfisher Technical Solutions the best of luck on any future projects and would have no hesitation in working with them again or recommending them to anyone considering an automated parking system.
I thoroughly enjoyed working with Colin and Kingfisher Technical Solutions. Colin’s experience, expertise, professionalism and deep knowledge of the automated carparking industry was invaluable throughout our project.
Of particular note were Colin’s exceptional communication skills, including his ability to interpret complex engineering information so that it could be clearly understood by both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Coupled with his approach in keeping us up to date on what was happening at all times, it enabled us to make fully informed business decisions when necessary.
Colin’s detailed, methodical and practical way of working is balanced by his ability to adapt to changes quickly, all while maintaining a focus on project goals and milestones.
The overall value Colin brought to the project in terms of cost savings and managing risks significantly outweighed the cost of his services and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him to anyone who is considering using his expertise in automated carparking.
Following the disruptions caused by COVID-19, which significantly impacted our previous parking system vendor and their subcontractors, we made the decision to engage Kingfisher Technical Solutions (KTS). Automated parking is a highly specialized field that demands deep technical expertise in both installation and system operations, and KTS brought exactly that level of knowledge and support.
Colin’s expertise in automated parking systems was critical in identifying operational concerns that, as real estate developers, we would not have anticipated. His thorough approach to inspections and documentation throughout the various stages of the installation ensured a high level of oversight and quality control. However, it was during the system testing and commissioning phase that Colin’s value was most evident. His structured and meticulous testing protocols effectively identified and resolved issues, ensuring optimal integration and performance of all system components.
We are sincerely grateful to Colin for his contributions and would strongly recommend that any developer or building owner considering an automated parking system engage KTS early in the process. Their involvement from the outset can greatly enhance the selection, installation, and long-term success of the system.
This testimonial is a validation of the incredible work completed by Kingfisher Technical Solutions for the garage replacement project of BrickellHouse Condominium Association in Miami, FL. Our Association has been working with Mr Barksby since the end of 2019. We have been widely impressed by his experience and knowledge in the automated parking industry.
The BrickellHouse automated Parking Project involved a full replacement of a failed AGV system that was completed in 2014. The project consisted of 420 spaces and 21 AGV robots. The replacement project consisted of finding an alternate vendor that could complete a full replacement of the system, which accounted for the existing structure, the needed capacity, the insurance and capital requirements, and the long-term cost of the system. Mr Barksby not only completed a study of the effectiveness of the AGV system technology, but he also completed the entire tender process for the replacement of the system.
Mr Barksby, has been an advocate for the association since the beginning, representing our interest and saving the association millions of dollars in negotiations. He uses his experience in the field to ensure the effectiveness of the system and to have the vendor complete any type of necessary adjustments.
BrickellHouse Association will continue to advocate for the professionalism and knowledge that Kingfisher Technical Solutions and Mr Barksby bring to the table.
As the developer and builder of the Lennox apartment building located in Parramatta, we appointed Kingfisher Technical Solutions to assist us in navigating through the concept design, specification and tender process for a fully automated parking system.
We worked closely with Colin Barksby and found his industry knowledge, pragmatic approach and attention to detail helped us speed up the process, along with de-risking the procurement and implementation of Australia’s biggest automated parking system.
Kingfisher was subsequently retained on the project to ensure the parking system achieved practical completion, witnessing the rigorous on-site testing process. Kingfisher closed out the project by helping us agree a long-term maintenance contract with the parking system supplier.
We have no hesitation in working with Kingfisher again on any project requiring automated parking and would recommend their services regardless of the type or size of parking system being considered.
This letter is to confirm that Colin Barksby and his company, Kingfisher Technical Solutions (KTS), have been assisting Windmill in Automated Parking System implementation, which included two projects within the Ottawa area. These projects included The Eddy Condominiums – a (47) space automated puzzle-parking system on two levels – as well as Zibi Ontario Phase 1 – a proposed (180) space automated shuttle system on two levels.
Colin provided Windmill technical review and commissioning support on The Eddy project to assist with practical completion and functionality of the system during, as well as post-construction. His knowledge of the implementation of automated parking systems as well as of the construction industry in general greatly assisted Windmill in troubleshooting and close out of the project. He also provided great input into user interfacing and long-term maintenance of the system for Windmill to properly turn over the APS to the Condominium Management Group.
For the larger Zibi project Windmill has contracted Colin to provide complete consulting services for the automated shuttle system from concept to completion. The project is currently out to tender to qualified suppliers and Colin has prepared and coordinated the RFQ and RFP process to date in conjunction with Windmill and our other consultants. Coiln has great knowledge of all of the vendors within the APS industry and provides necessary insight specific to the project of which vendors are best suited. He has also developed RFQ and RFP (tender) document formats that require specific information completed electronically by vendors that he extracts and provides a summary report and recommendation upon selection. Windmill intends to continue to contract KTS throughout construction and commissioning as well as project close out.
I would highly recommend the services of KTS to any Owner looking to implement an APS on any of their projects. Colin knows the industry, is collaborative with the project team, is always punctual on his deliverables and will ultimately minimize risk as well as overall costs on the project serving as Owner’s advocate. Please feel free to contact me via phone or e-mail to discuss further.
Colin Barksby through his consultancy Kingfisher Technical Solutions was employed to work with us on our Massey Tower project. Massey Tower is a 60-storey residential tower built on a heritage site in the heart of Toronto.
I would highly recommend Colin’s services for anyone looking to incorporate an Automated Carparking System (APS) into their development.
Not only is his knowledge of the industry impressive and his expertise unquestionable, he also has the ability to communicate clearly and succinctly to all parties from both a technical and non-technical perspective.
While his approach is methodical and detailed, he is also able to respond quickly to any changes in circumstances and always maintains a practical and pragmatic focus on getting the job done.
As the client, I felt confident in his ability and desire to protect our investment long-term through carefully considered contingency planning and risk mitigation strategies. Equally, his approach to commissioning and site acceptance testing was very structured.
Constantly seeking to improve the way all parties could work together collaboratively, he also orchestrated a new approach to measuring “service level agreements” to create a win-win scenario for both developer, supplier and ultimately the end user.
Ultimately, the value Colin brought to the project in terms of both cost management and risk mitigation far outweighed the cost of his services.
The project presented a number of challenges during design and installation, and it is our firm belief that without your contribution it would have been extremely difficult to achieve a satisfactory result.
Your professionalism, technical competence and business acumen have allowed straightforward solutions to seemingly complicated situations. Being the very good operator that you have demonstrated to be, you have realised that although an individual project is significant in itself, as or more significant is keeping an on-going association with important clients.
In contrast with other sub-contractors, you have diligently attended to big issues and, keeping the main picture in focus, swiftly solved small problems, which usually sour working relationships with builders.
Finally, we want to congratulate you for a job well done and look forward to working with you on future projects.
We have worked with Colin on a number of projects involving fully automated parking systems. His in‐depth industry knowledge and wide experience, gained from working with a number of automated parking suppliers, have been invaluable.
Colin has consistently provided us with independent advice in a simple, understandable format. His pragmatic approach and attention to detail have ensured that our developer clients and their design teams have received workable concept layouts and accurate cost information at feasibility stage.
This has allowed them to make informed decisions, in a cost effective manner, at an early stage of the projects. I have no hesitation in recommending Colin’s high quality, value for money consulting services in relation to all areas of automated parking.
I have known Mr Colin Barksby as a friend and business partner for some fifteen years and have the greatest respect for his technical and sales skills in the worldwide automated car parking industry.
I always have found him to be a courteous and affable man with a strong drive to work for the best interest of all parties involved in a project.
I have no doubt that he will provide good service to any organisation associated with the automated car parking industry which he serves, as he will contribute energetically to their goals by bringing his many years of experience to bear on the tasks before him.
