Collecdev partners with KTS on innovative church redevelopment in Toronto
Kingfisher Technical Solutions (KTS) has partnered with Collecdev, to design a fully automated parking system at Cielo Condos, the redevelopment of the Bloor Street United Church (BSUC) in Toronto.
The architecture artfully blends the historic and the contemporary. A four-storey atrium will create a separation between the new-build and heritage elements with the 29-storey residential tower, Cielo Condos, to be set back from the church built in 1886. Increased leasable space will support the congregation’s long-term sustainability plan.
“Buyers at Cielo are looking for innovative strategies to make everyday living more convenient,” said Natascha Pieper, VP Sales & Marketing, Collecdev Construction.
Collecdev has started work on the first phase of construction with ERA Heritage Architects to carefully dismantle the intricate brickwork on the BSUC for future re-installation.
Shoring and excavation is scheduled to start in Spring 2023 and Collecdev has been working with KTS to incorporate the 172-space fully automated parking system into the underground design.
“Collecdev Construction is excited to work on such a significant landmark and will be paying attention to every detail, to ensure the City of Toronto will be happy with the church’s transformation for generations to come,” said Jennifer Burstein, VP Collecdev Construction.
KTS worked with Collecdev’s design team, collaborating with the project architect and engineers, to develop an efficient parking system. Subsequently, KTS developed the carparking system specification, which includes integrated Electric Vehicle charging, and supported Collecdev throughout the tender process up to awarding the contract.
